How to Make Baked Steak

Baked Steak is a great homestyle recipe that conjures up memories of dinner at Grandma's. A tender, delicious baked steak is easier than you may think. Whether you choose to use an oven or a crock pot, this baked steak recipe is guaranteed to please! Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

For the best baked steak, buy a quality cut of cubed steaks. Unless they are small, one per serving will be just right. Don't forget to get extra for baked steak leftovers! Place baked steak patties in a bowl covered with milk and set aside.

    • 2

Place two cups of all purpose flour in a large bowl. Add a few dashes of garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper to flour, and mix well. Set bowl of flour mixture aside.

    • 3

In a large skillet over medium high heat, place a few tbs vegetable oil and heat through. When oil is hot you are ready to brown your steak patties for your baked steak!

    • 4

Dip each baked steak patty in flour mixture, making sure to evenly coat each side, and place in hot oil. Let brown for a minute, flip, and then transfer to a crock pot or an oven safe dish.

    • 5

After all baked steak patties are browned, add about a half cup of vegetable oil to skillet, turn down heat to low, and stir up the bits of browned flour and steak drippings. Add a little of the flour mixture at a time, stirring frequently, until you have a nice brown gravy. Pour over baked steak patties.

    • 6

Top your baked steak with slices of onions and mushrooms (optional.) Cook in crock pot on low heat for 6 hours, OR place in oven, covered, on 275 degrees for 2-3 hours.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your gravy is getting a little thick, you may add some of the milk you soaked your steak patties in to thin it out.

  • Gravy from a jar works well, too, and is probably a healthier alternative.

  • Cream of Mushroom soup also works well in place of gravy.
