How to Use a Sauna Correctly
A sauna is a useful tool to both de-stress and detoxify. The heat and meditative atmosphere allows your muscles to relax as you perspire out toxins. Before you enter the sauna, though, there are a few guidelines you need to be aware of so you'll get the most of the experience, and also so you won't violate any etiquette. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Find out whether the sauna is clothing-optional or clothing-required. Most co-ed saunas require that you wear a bathing suit, while most same sex saunas leave this up to the individual's discretion. There are exceptions, though, so it's safest to ask if it's your first experience at the sauna.

2
Shower before you enter the sauna. Showering allows the sauna to stay clean, and a warm shower also helps open up your pores so you can immediately gain the benefits of the sauna. If you want to increase the moisture in the sauna, don't towel off after you shower.

3
Sit on the top bench of the sauna for the most heat, and the lower bench to have a slightly cooler experience. You may want to lay a towel down on the bench for comfort. Find a comfortable position and relax, breathing deeply.
-
4
Stay in the sauna for 10 to 20 minutes, or less time if it seems especially hot to you. You should be freely sweating by this time. Then, step out of the sauna and allow your body to cool down. If you're nude, you probably want to wrap a towel around you or wear a robe as you cool down. You may also want to rinse off with a quick shower to cool down even further.
-
5
Enter the sauna again if you'd like to continue with your experience. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you're fully relaxed.
-
6
Take a thorough shower after your sauna experience and allow yourself to cool down thoroughly before you get dressed. Because you've probably lost a lot of moisture through perspiration, have some water or juice to hydrate yourself. Also apply lotion because the heat and perspiration can lead to dry skin.

Tips & Warnings
Nudity in a sauna does not carry any sexual meaning. Relax after your sauna experience to make the most of the sauna's effects.
Don't test your limits in a sauna. Staying in a sauna for longer stretches at a time won't necessarily improve your experience. If you feel at all dizzy or nauseous, leave the sauna immediately. Check with your doctor before entering a sauna if you have any health issues.
