How to Stop the Download Window From Popping up in Firefox

The Mozilla Firefox Downloads window helps you keep track of all files you open, save or download with Firefox by displaying information like file name, size, time remaining on your download, the website you downloaded it from, and the date the download took place. Unless otherwise specified, the Downloads window retains all history of past downloads. You can easily stop the Downloads window from popping up when you download a file by changing your Firefox download preferences.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Firefox. Click the "Firefox" menu in the top-left corner of your menu bar and click "Preferences."

    • 2

Click the "General" tab, located in the top-left corner of the Preferences window.

    • 3

Click the box next to "Show the Downloads Window When Downloading a File" so the check mark disappears. Exit out of the Firefox Preferences window to save your changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change the folder on your hard drive where your Firefox downloads are stored by clicking the "Choose" box, located to the right of the "Save Files To" field in the "General" Preferences window. Alternatively, click the "Always Ask Me Where To Save Files" box if you want Firefox to always prompt you for a save location.
