How to Knit a Harry Potter Scarf

I don't know about you, but during the winter I like dressing in as many layers as possible to go outside. A house scarf from Harry Potter is a fun way to stay warm and show your appreciation of wizards.

Select your colors. Which house do you identify with the most? Gryffindor is scarlet and gold, Slythern is green and silver, Hufflepuff is yellow and black, and Ravenclaw is bronze and blue (silver and blue in the movies). You'll need at least a skein of yarn in each color.

Pick your style. There are two harry potter scarf styles. In the first two movies it is equal blocks of each color. Starting with the Prisoner of Azkaban it was more of scarlet, green, yellow, and blue (depending on which house) with narrow stripes of the other color. Personally, I like the first style because you're using equal amounts of each yarn.

How do you want to knit it? Knitting on straight needles will take less time. If you choose this then decide what stitch pattern you want. Knitting on double pointed or circular needles will take more time and yarn, but will be twice as thick.

Go for it! Scarves are fun to knit because you really don't need a pattern. Cast on as many stitches as you want the width to be. Knit until you're satisfied with the length. Add fringe if you want it. Stuck on a knitting technique? I recommend going to knittinghelp.com. (link in the resources section!)
