If you're planning a visit to our nation's capital, you'll no doubt want to visit D.C.'s many museums. For art lovers, the National Gallery of Art is a must-see. If you're in a hurry, don't despair. The museum's most important works can be seen in an hour. Here's how.

Things You'll Need:

  • Ability to move swiftly through the museum
  • A love of art
  1. Step 1

    To avail of the museum's free one-hour tours for groups of 20 people or more, book at least three weeks in advance.

  2. Step 2

    Choose which short-trip tours you'd like to take at the National Gallery of Art. Currently there are three offered to the public. They include the East Building Highlights, the West Building Highlights and the West Building Sculpture Highlights tours.

    Choose the East Building Highlights tour and you'll see such works as the Henri Matisse Cutouts, Pablo Picasso's "Head of a Woman," and more modern pieces, including Roy Lichenstein's "Look Mickey" and Richard Serra's "Five Plates, Two Poles."

  4. Step 4
     

    Take the West Building Highlights tour and you'll discover works such as Vincent Van Gogh's "Self Portrait," Paul Cezanne's "The Peppermint Bottle," and Jan Van Eyck's "The Annunciation."

  5. Step 5
     

    Decide on the West Building Sculpture Highlights tour and you'll get to see Edgar Degas' "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen," Maurice Sterne's "Sitting Figure," and Pietro Magni's "The Reading Girl," among others.
