If you all of a sudden notice a lot of paragraph symbols ¶ in Microsoft Word as you are typing a document, that means you probably have accidentally enabled the Microsoft Word paragraph symbol without knowing it. But don’t worry, it is easy to turn the distracting Microsoft Word paragraph symbol function off. Read the steps below to learn how to get rid of the Microsoft Word paragraph symbol.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open Microsoft Word and load any document you are working on. You should notice numerous paragraph symbols ¶ throughout the text if you have accidentally enabled this feature.

  2. Step 2

Click on the Tools menu and choose Options. Under the View Tab you will see a section entitled, ‘Formatting marks’. You will notice that either the ‘Paragraph marks’ or the ‘All’ boxes are checked. To get rid of the Microsoft Word paragraph symbol in your document, you will need to uncheck these boxes.

  3. Step 3

Exit out of the Options window and return to your Microsoft Word document. You should now notice that the paragraph symbols have disappeared. If you ever want to use them in the future, simply go back into the Tools Options window and apply a check mark to ‘paragraph marks.’
