How to Be More Self-Assured
Everybody's self-esteem suffers a blow every now and then. However, if you quiver in your boots each time you are introduced to a new person--or are unable to make eye-contact with potential employers at job interviews--you may be suffering from a chronic case of insecurity. Here are a few tips to increase your confidence and help you to become a more self-assured, relaxed person.

Do the work involved to make sure you are being the best possible you every day. It shouldn't matter if you're short, tall, fat, or thin. If you know that you are doing everything possible to make you feel good, healthy, centered, and well-adjusted, then you will feel more confident facing the world each morning. Take nutritional supplements. Get plenty of exercise. Control your eating. Meditate, Take a yoga class or buy a yoga DVD. Learn how to relax and center yourself at home.

Be kind to those you meet and to your family. Be especially kind to yourself. Never use self-deprecating humor.

Tell yourself how great you are at least 20 times a day. Whenever you accomplish a challenging task or surprise yourself by being able to do something you thought you couldn't do, praise your own abilities out loud. It's okay to say, "Good job, me!"

Look into the mirror every chance you get. Find five things about yourself that you like. It could be something as small as the shape of your ears or the color of your irises. If you examine your face carefully, you'll find praiseworthy beauty there. Think about those things you like about yourself anytime you are feeling insecure.

Make a list of your most admirable traits. Think of ways to emphasize those parts of yourself in your daily life. If you are generous, find an even greater capacity to give. If you are kind, be sure to make yourself available to others in need of an understanding ear or a helping hand. If your intelligence is above average, gently help others understand things whenever you have the chance. Live each day with the knowledge that you are full of special gifts to share with the world around you.

Go through your closet. Get rid of anything that makes you feel frumpy or unattractive when you wear it. Fill your closet with clothing that makes you feel comfy, sassy, self-assured, attractive, and in control of your life. Wear fabrics that feel good against your skin in colors that compliment your skin tone.

Take control of your schedule. Pencil in designated time for yourself each and every day.

Get the proper amount of sleep every night. Eat healthy foods every day. Take walks when the weather permits. Notice the beauty in the word around you. When you are fit, well-rested and calm, you will feel more secure and confident inside.

Be sure to do something to help someone else every day. Knowing that you have something important to offer others is always a boost to your self-esteem.
If you ever feel worthless or if you suffer from depression for more than a few weeks, be sure to speak with your family physician, as this could be a sign of a chemical imbalance requiring medication.
