Things You'll Need:
- Self Esteem
- Independent Thinking
-
Step 1
Understand that the media's view of beauty has no authority. One hundred years ago in America, pretty was plump, and there were weight gain beauty salons. Thanks to the fact that these days most poor people can afford enough food to eat, being chubby is no longer a sign of status and thin is in.
-
Step 2
Place yourself mentally outside of the realm of judgment. Say to yourself, "I don't care what they think of me. If they want to judge me superficially, all that shows is that they are superficial people." Your body is your temple - respect and love it!
-
Step 3
Realize that everyone sees your body differently. There are many people (myself included) that have different definitions of beauty than the current one propagated by the media. No matter how you look, some people will always see your body as ugly and others will see your body as beautiful.
-
Step 4
Why continue to try fad diets that don't work or harmful diet pills? Instead, put all that energy into learning to love who you are now.
-
Step 5
You can be healthy. A recent study showed that on average, people 20-30 pounds "overweight" lived 2-3 years longer than so called "normal weight" individuals. Just make sure you eat healthy foods and get some exercise now and then.
-
Step 6
Realize how silly you'd be not to love yourself. There is no good reason why you shouldn't love yourself and be happy with who you are. Shame and other negative feels serve no useful purpose. In fact, it is these negative feels that often bring out the worst behavior in us.
-
Step 7
Give yourself a hug every now and then. Look in the mirror and look at your body and say "You are beautiful." And mean it!

on 1/27/2009 Great advice. I know first hand how difficult it can be for a person to love his/her body. I don't love my body - but I know I should!

on 1/16/2009 Aww, this is really nice. I fully agree. Love your body, and others will find you sexy, too. I guarantee that people who are chubby get lots of... dates.
