How to Make Your Own Dishwasher Soap

The secret to being a domestic goddess, I find, is having an arsenal of kitchen appliances to hand doing the hard work.... especially my dishwasher. After all, what kind of goddess has dishpan hands? To keep your dishwasher working for you - at a reduced cost - why not make your own dishwasher soaps, detergents, limescale remover and rinse aids?

Things You'll Need

• 1 c. Borax
• 1 c. Baking Soda
• 4 pkts Unsweetened lemonade mix
• White vinegar
• Storage container

Instructions

1. To make your homemade dishwasher soap, mix 1 cup of Borax, 1 cup of baking soda and 2 - 3 tbsp. of unsweetened lemonade mix in a large storage container.

2. If you live in an area with a hard water problem, you may need to adjust these amounts to prevent a filmy residue from appearing on your dishes.

3. Use 2 tablespoons of this homemade dishwasher soap for each load at a cost of just pennies per load.

4. Cast aside expensive rinse aids and replace with pure white vinegar. This ingredient is any domestic goddess' best friend and easily cuts through grease and grime, helping you quickly deal with many household tasks, such as window cleaning.

5. Unsweetened lemonade mix is a non-toxic (and more importantly non-caustic) way of helping your washing machine eliminate greasy residues and limescale buildup. So, at a cost of just $.30, consider using them in place of an expensive dishwasher cleaner.
