1. First, it's important to note that there are many types of credit scores, but only one that really matters. Your FICO score is the one that is used by most major lenders. When you request your score, it is important to make sure that you are in fact accessing your FICO score.

2. There are a few ways to get your credit score for free. One way is to find a service online that will provide your credit score when you subscribe to a free trial of their service. MyFICO is a division of FICO, so that is a safe bet.

3. Any time you are denied credit you are also entitled, by law, to receive a copy of your credit report and score from the lender/creditor that denied you. If they don't voluntarily give it to you, be sure to ask.
