Things You'll Need:
- Internet Access
- Accountant
- Child or dependent with special needs and/or disability
-
Step 1
The first thing that should be done is to access the Wrights law website for detailed information on tax benefits and deductions (located in the resource section of this article). Wrights law gives a full detailed outline and explanation on how to file for taxes when there is a child dependent with special needs or disability within the home. Their website covers topics such as tuition costs, tutoring, Special instruction or training or therapy, Related books and materials, Transportation expenses, Diagnostic evaluations, Health Saving Accounts & Flexible Savings Arrangements, costs of attending a medical conference, Child and Dependent Care Credit, Exemption for Dependents, and Earned Income Tax Credit.
-
Step 2
The next step to take is if your child has a special diet or eating subsidies, you will want to go to "Tax Deductions for Allergies
and Chemical Sensitivities". This web page will walk you through how to claim your child's special diets on your tax returns. It is explained clearly and is very user friendly. The web page address is located in the resource section of this article. -
Step 3
Your last step in this process would be to take notes on all the information that applies to you and your family. You will then take your notes and all the proof that you have of the services you have came out of pocket for to your accountant. Your accountant does not need to be private or a specialized accountant, if you are doing your taxes through a company such as HSBC they will be able to help you just as well.

on 3/1/2009 The information on the Tax Deductions web site is woefully out-of-date. Be careful about relying on this web site.
