How to Change Your Windows 7 Desktop Background

Changing your desktop background makes the computer feel more customized without requiring a great deal of effort. Although any picture will work, try to choose a picture close to the size of your screen resolution for the best results. Windows 7 makes it easy to change your desktop background as often as you want. However, unlike many Mac and Linux systems, automatic rotation between multiple images isn't available, you'll need to get a third-party program if you want to rotate images automatically.

Things You'll Need

  • A Computer running Windows 7
  • A photo (optional; there are some preset images to choose from if you do not have one of your own).

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel. Click the "Appearance and Personalization" section.

    • 2

Click "Personalization." Click "Desktop Background" to proceed. Scroll through the list of available pictures to see if you want to use one. Otherwise, click "Browse" to select your own.

    • 3

Navigate to the picture you want to use. Click on it and select "Open." Select the options you want to use for positioning the picture. Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also quickly set a photo as the desktop background by right clicking a photo's icon and choosing "Set as Desktop Background"; however, depending on the dimensions of the photo you may have to use the article's methods to change the background to "Fill" or "Center" for the image to look aesthetically pleasing :).
