Things You'll Need

  • gluten-free pasta recipes
  • gluten-free spaghetti, fettuccine, rotini, shells, or other pasta
  • pasta sauce
  • large saucepan
  • boiling water
  • dash of oil
  • Sample different gluten free pastas to see which ones you prefer. There really is a lot of difference from one type of grain to another. Typically, gluten free pasta is made with grains such as brown rice or spelt flour or a blend of gluten-free flours. Brown rice spaghetti and other pastas has a light taste and texture very similar to wheat. Spelt pasta has a strong taste that may overwhelm some dishes.

  • Follow the package directions exactly in cooking the pasta when you make your gluten-free pasta recipes. Boil plenty of water, adding a dash of oil to keep the noodles from sticking to each other. Add the pasta and separate the noodles with a fork. Cook for the designated range of time until the noodles are fully cooked but still with some bite (al dente), and then quickly drain the pasta. Use immediately. See the Tips section for important tips about boiling gluten-free pasta.

  • Use gluten-free pastas with gluten free pasta recipes for spaghetti sauce, marinara sauce, alfredo sauce, or any other pasta sauce. Or toss the hot pasta with fresh garlic, fresh parsley, olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, and parmesan cheese.

Tips & Warnings

  • Gluten free pasta needs careful watching so it doesn't overcook - and thus disintegrate, ruining your recipes.
  • Expect some clouding of the boiling water with brown rice pasta - that's normal.
