By establishing a main them, you will then be able to determine what it is that you want to relate to the reading audience. What is it you want to tell your audience? What purpose do you want to convey to the reader? When you have established these three items, you will be well on your way to producing a good work!

  3. Step 3

Choose your outline's structure. This can be a word or short phrase. Outlines can be in Roman number--letter--number form or they can be in decimal form. Choose one and be consistent.

Write down your main categories. Write your main idea at the top of the outline and leave out any introduction and conclusion. The outline only covers the body of your work--the information that supports your main idea at the top. Then, decide your main categories and then put them in logical order.

  5. Step 5

Fill in the subcategories for each main category. Each main category of your paper may be composed of several paragraphs.

  6. Step 6

Within the subcategories, list and arrange your notes within your paper to support or expand the point you want to make in the paragraph. Then, continue to add smaller divisions as needed.

  7. Step 7

Then, write your paper. With your completed outline, you should be able to write a good paper. Your completed outline will give you the basics of your paper and with your research accumulated, will result in a paper that is well-organized and easily read.
