You can clean your silver naturally to keep it shiny and tarnish free without harsh chemicals. Many commercial cleaners contain warning labels and hazardous ingredients. You don't need harsh chemicals to get the job done. Try these natural silver cleaners as a safer alternative.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Never store silver near rubber, or use rubber gloves when cleaning silver. Rubber corrodes silver.

  2. Step 2

Cream of Tarter & Aluminum Foil Method: Fill sink with enough water to cover your silver item. Add 3 Tablespoons cream of tarter to the water. Add a few strips of aluminum foil to the water. This method may cause a foul odor. The odor is not harmful, but you may want to open a window or work in a ventilated area.

  3. Step 3

Baking Soda Method: Make a paste with baking soda and water. Add a few drops of peppermint or spearmint essential oil. Rub the silver with this paste. Wash your hands well when finished.

  4. Step 4

Toothpaste Method: You can use toothpaste in place of the baking soda and essential oil paste above. Simply squeeze a little toothpaste on a cloth or sponge and use it to polish your silver. You can use your finger as well to scrub areas where the silver is significantly tarnished.
