How to Set Up a PS3 Network
A PS3 network is available for those who wish to log on to the Internet. You can play online games, surf the Internet and use the PlayStation store to purchase games or download demos. The PlayStation network can also connect you to "Home." This is an online community where you can talk, watch movies or play games with other people. You can also send messages to people on your friends list from the dashboard. Setting up a PS3 network only takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.

Custom Setup
-
6
Follow the first and second step on the "Easy Setup" section.
-
7
View the "Select a Setting Method" screen. Highlight the "Custom" tab. Press "X" to continue.
-
8
Highlight "Auto-Detect" in the operational mode of the network device screen. Press "X."
-
9
Choose your IP Address Settings. You can automatically detect your IP address. If you need to input your IP address manually, choose that option. If your Internet requires a PPPoE user name and password, select that option by highlighting PPPoE. In most cases, using the option "Automatic" will be fine.
-
10
Set up the DHCP host name. Usually, this does not need to be changed. If you need to manually set up the host name, highlight "Set," then add the DHCP host name in the next screen. If you do not need to make changes, select "Do Not Set." Then press "X."
-
11
View the next "DNS Setting" screen. Again, in most cases, choosing "Automatic" will install the proper settings. If you need to manually add the DNS, highlight "Manual." Manually input your DNS settings. Highlight "Automatic" to move forward without manually changing your settings. Press "X."
-
12
Highlight "Automatic" on the MTU screen. Then press "X" to continue.
-
13
View the "Proxy Server" setting. If you want to use a proxy server, highlight "Use." Then manually input the IP address and the port number. You do not have to use a proxy server to connect to the Internet. In most cases, choosing "Do Not Use" is the correct option.
-
14
View your settings list. Once everything is correct, press "X" on the controller to save the settings. If you made an error, press "Circle" to make changes.
-
15
Highlight "Test Connection." You now should have Internet access via your PlayStation 3.
