How to Light a Charcoal Grill

How to Light a Charcoal Grill thumbnail
Now thats what I call Char Broiled!

Lighting charcoal in a grill is extremely easy, but for some reason it stumps a lot of people. Sadly, there was a time in my life when I couldn't light charcoal if it were soaked in gasoline and had a pilot light under it. Thankfully for me and my ego this has changed and not only have I found out how to light the charcoal, I don't get that gross lighter fluid taste in my food. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

My charcoal pyramid, I think I see a resemblance to the sphynx

Begin by placing the charcoal into a pile, it doesn't have to be perfect, just build a pyramid like the Egyptians do.

La ti da la ti da!

Then soak the replicated Egyptian artifact with lighter fluid.

      Fire! Wuhaaa!

This is the part where people mess up according to me, Do Not Let It Soak In The Lighter Fluid!!!!! Run and grab your fire starter and light it now. Yes, your right, if it doesn't soak it will go out. If you have patience it will come back, I promise

      Time to cook!

See I told you so...Once the charcoal is completely white, you may begin to cook. Speaking of cooking, I have a great recipe for a chilie rubbed pork loin that is bangin. I will try to get that posted soon.

Tips & Warnings

  • When buying charcoal, buy the good brand. That cheap stuff just doesn't cut it.

  • When buying lighter fluid, I will buy the cheap kind. Think about it, the point of lighter fluid is to add a flammable substance to the coals to get the burning. Even the dollar store knows how to light things on fire.

  • Caution: The contents of this article will create heat, do not touch fire. It is in deed HOT!
