How to Edit a Photo using iPhoto Software
iPhoto Software has great tools for organizing and editing your photos. It has some great features that allow you to quickly and easily tweak your photos in order to correct for defects, exposure, and poor lighting conditions.

Click on edit at the bottom of the window, your photo will open either in the same window, a new window, or it will open in a photo editing program such as photo shop. How it opens will be determined by your settings. If your photos are opening in 3rd party software to be edited and you'd like to have them open in iPhoto simple click on the iPhoto in the upper left of your screen and then choose preferences from the drop-down menu. You will see a like that says, "Edit Photos In" - Select either, "In Main Window" or "In separate Window" - either of these options will open the photos to be edited in iPhoto.

Once you have opened your photo to be edited, you have many editing tools available to you. The very quickest method to tweak a photo is to use the enhance tool on the bottom menu of your iPhoto software screen. This feature will make assumptions for you based on averages. Go ahead and try it, as it's not permanent. If you don't like the results, simply press Commend + z to undo the change you just made.

The rotate tool will allow you to rotate your photo in 90 degree increments. This is a great tool for photos that are sideways of upside down!

The crop tool will allow you to crop portions of your photo that you don't want. Simply click the crop tool and then move the box around the photo until only the desired area of the photo appears in the box. Click Apply to save your changes. If you decide later to change it again, simply return to the crop tool and your entire photo will be available again.

The straighten tool that is available in your iphoto software will allow you to straighten images. To use this tool, click on the straighten tool and then move the slider to the right or left to straighten your image. When you are done, you can either click on a new editing tool or you can click "Done" to return to your main iPhoto menu. Your changes will be saved.

The Red Eye Tool is used to remove red eye's in photos. Simply click the red eye tool and then click in the center of the person's eyes that need adjusting. The tool with likely be set at automatic, but if you need a different size, choose manual and then adjust the size by moving the slider to the right to increase it and to the left to decrease the size.

The retouch tool in iPhoto is a great tool that you can use to erase small defects in your photos. Simply click the retouch tool icon and then click on a small defect in your photo. It should disappear.

The adjust tool is a great tool for making larger adjustments to your photos. It's quite an in-depth tool, so if you'd like to use this one - read the article in the resource section on using the adjust tool in iPhoto.
Tips & Warnings
All of the tools available in your iPhoto software are non-destructive. That means that you can revert back to the original photo settings by going into the edit more and re-clicking the tool.
Make sure that you edit in small increments. Be sure to inspect the entire image as you edit for the best results.

Great article...I was used to using Photoshop and then I got a Mac and iPhoto seemed to so "simple" it was difficult for me to get my pictures the way I wanted..your article is very helpful. Thanks
