Creating an Excel chart or graph is an essential tool that everyone needs to know if they are to present the bottom line in a graphical format. Hey lets face it numbers get attention but a picture speaks a thousand words.

      You must first start off by inputting data. Just to make things simple I am going to have two columns with 13 rows of data. The columns will represent the month and payment title and the rows will represent month and payment amounts. As you can see from my image on the left its pretty straight forward.       From here you would highlight the data that you want represented in your graph or chart. Then click on the chart wizard at the top tool bar a listing of charts and graphs will pop up. In this example I chose the bar graph. In addition if you want to represent specific data that is not next to each other highlight one area and hold down the CTRL button and highlight the other area that you want included on your chart.

      From there click NEXT, you should be prompted by a chart source data which allows you to change your charts data range or convert it to columns or rows.

      The next box on the chart wizard allows you to name the X and Y axis in addition to changing a whole slough of other things such as gridlines, data tables and labels.

      The last step allows you to either embed the chard in your current worksheet or on a seperate worksheet. If you click at the image at the top of the article you will notice how the finished bar graph will look.
