Pantry moths can take over a kitchen and a home very quickly. They often hitchike into your home on nuts, seeds, grains or flour bought from bulk bins. They can be very difficult to get rid of, even by toxic methods. Fortunately you can prevent pantry moths naturally.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prevent pantry moths from coming home with you by investigating the nuts, seeds and grains you are buying. This is especially true if you are buying organic foods from bulk bins. The favorite foods of pantry moths are nuts and bird seed.

  2. Step 2

Put herbs, spices and aromatic oils in your pantry and cabinets to repel them. Bay leaves, cinnamon, coriander, lemon peel and lavender are especially effective.

  3. Step 3

Store grains, flours, and nuts in air-tight glass containers. Zip lock bags are not sufficient!

  4. Step 4

If you suspect that flour or nuts you bought may have eggs in it, freeze it for several days. This will kill the eggs.
