Step 1
New Year's celebrations usually take place when kids are on vacation from school. Allowing them to spend one late night on New Year's Eve to celebrate the incoming year should be allowed. It is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings for everyone--as well as a fun party for the kids to participate in. Have very young children take a nap in the early evening, so they are not too tired or cranky when the party starts.
-
Step 2
Create New Year's GiftsLet the kids make special New Year's party hats and decorations. Take them to the local crafts store and spend the afternoon creating the party gifts. Help them to decorate the house in preparation for the party.
-
Step 3
Toasting the New YearBuy soft drinks or apple juice for the kids to join in with the toasting and cheering when the clock strikes midnight.
-
Step 4
New Year's ResolutionsLet the children make New Year's resolutions and write them on separate pieces of paper and collect them in a bucket. When the clock strikes midnight, pass the basket around for each person in the room to pick their resolution for the year from the bucket. Make separate resolution buckets, one for the adults and one for the kids.
-
Step 5
New Year Celebration CakeBake a New Year's celebration cake with the kids and allow them to use their imagination when adding the decorations.

on 1/9/2009 My heart was warmed by the article and made me want to celebrate it with kids. I'm glad Dr. Jewell has remembered the children for New Year Eve celebrations.
