Choosing the right Search Engine Keywords for your Title is the KEY to success in higher Search Engine rankings AND higher earnings. Don't miss out by skipping these important steps BEFORE you write your article or name your website.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

INFORM YOURSELF ABOUT SEO RANKING. Having your article or website rank high on the Search Engines search list will directly effect how many people find you. If you are buried under hundreds of pages, chances are that people looking for your information will never see your page. Search Engines assign a VERY HIGH importance in their page ranking formulas to the words in the title AND the web address (URL). The closer they match, the better your ranking.

  2. Step 2

WRITE A PROPER TITLE - The search engine keywords you have chosen should be in your Title AND your URL. This is really important for page ranking.

  3. Step 3

TWEAK YOUR TITLE - eHow assigns the URL according to what's in the title. You have some measure of control over what's in the URL, by controlling the title. This will effect the URL assignment. There are a few ways to do this that should get you good results for your search engine keywords.

  4. Step 4

USE FEWER WORDS - The more words you have in your title, the more your search engine keywords strength is diluted. Try to say what you need to say in the fewest words possible.

  5. Step 5

AVOID STOP WORDS - These are the little words like; the, and, or, in, etc... Search engines generally ignore them, but if you use them in important areas, like the title and first sentence of your article, it reduces the "weight" or prominence of your search engine keywords. It will effect how the search engine ranks your page. Reduce them in key areas if you can

  6. Step 6

ALWAYS PREVIEW & SAVE - Save and Preview the article. Check to make sure your keywords are in the URL. This could be one of the most important features eHow has provided us for getting our Title and URL to match up. Don't publish your article until you have tweaked the Title and URL to the point where you have a good match of your search engine keywords in both the Title and the URL.

  7. Step 7

EXPAND YOUR VIEW - When you go into the eHow writing wizard, look up at the upper left hand corner right above, 1 GET STARTED. See where it says "You are Publishing with the How To Wizard (Switch to Expanded View)" Click on "Switch to Expanded View". Now you have all 4 steps on one page. It will make it easier to tweak your title.

  8. Step 8

ENTER THE TITLE - Type in your title, select the difficulty, write an introduction, Put a sentence in the first three steps. You will write more there later. Right now, you just want to put in the minimum that eHow will accept, so that you can work on your search engine keywords in your title.

  9. Step 9

SAVE & PREVIEW - Save and preview what you have so far. Check the URL ehow is giving you. Is it using your search engine keywords that are in the title, in the URL? If not, go back and edit the title. Repeat these steps until you get a good match for your search engine keywords both the Title AND the URL.

  • DO NOT CHANGE YOUR TITLE IF YOUR ARTICLE IS ALREADY PUBLISHED AND EARNING! You will knock your article out of the ranking on Google and will start all over again.
