This is a great craft to do on a rainy day, it's not hard, and most people have these times around their home. Make a piggy bank!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 large latex round balloon
  • Newspaper
  • 3 empty toilet paper rolls
  • 4" of yarn
  • Two triangles cut out of card stock (Optional)
  • Your choice of paint
  • Black permanent marker
  • optional
  • Some kind of strong knife, I use a cardboard cutter.
  • Paper Mache Paste, link at bottom.
  1. Step 1

Blow up your balloon being careful not to pop it. Mix the paper mache mix, and rip the newspaper into 1inch wide strips. They can be as long as you want. I like to use about 5inches. They shred pretty easily.

  2. Step 2

You will dip the newspaper into the paste you made and lay it all over the balloon. You will want to do about 3 layers of it.

  3. Step 3

Cut two of the toilet paper rolls in half. Your going to place them on the side of the balloon. if you hold the balloon sideways, the four pieces will be on the bottom or the balloon creating legs. Cover the legs and overlap the underbelly and all over the piggy.. You will want at least 3 layers on the feet as well.

  4. Step 4

Cut the last paper towel roll 1/4th from the end. This will be the nose of the piggy. Do the same thing. Place it where the nose would go, and cover it with the newspaper dipped in paper mache. you will need 3 layers for the nose too. when all done, let it dry overnight.

  5. Step 5

The next morning your going to cut a hole big enough to drop a quarter into at the top and pop the balloon while your at it. You can than begin painting your new piggy. Let it dry and you've got yourself a cute little paper mache piggy bank!
