Dress up your home for Christmas on a budget using simple materials that are already in your home, or you can purchase at a discount or dollar store. You can create a festive space on a small budget with little tricks and creative ideas.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 to 12 red and green apples
  • Votive candles
  • Christmas tree ornaments and lights
  • Cloth napkins
  • Bowls and vases
  • Wrapping paper and ribbons
  1. Step 1

Fold your cloth or paper napkins into squares to resemble little present packages, then wrap holiday ribbons around each square, ending with a little bow. Use different colored napkins for different Christmas themes, such as red and green or white and red. Create different colored and themed napkin presents for each place setting.

  2. Step 2

Fill empty clear bowls or vases you have lying around with seasonal Christmas-colored treats or candies or even fake flowers. Fake flowers and candies can be found at many discount stores. Expand your mind to come up with different combinations or candies or flowers, such as red and green candies, silver and white fake flowers or red and white candy canes.

  3. Step 3

Look through your collections of bed sheets and blankets for colors that relate to the holiday season. Use them as sofa throws or covers accordingly. For covers, pin large sheets up under love seats or armchairs and place blankets over the back of couches. You can also use large sheets as a tablecloth.

  4. Step 4

Stop by discount stores to do your holiday decoration shopping before anywhere else. They usually have a huge supply or holiday-themed candles, decor, cars, gift wrap, and treats, all for under a couple of dollars. This saves a lot of money during the holiday season. Christmas-themed candles come in dozens of different styles, colors, designs and sizes.

  5. Step 5

Create a unique centerpiece by carving out a votive candle-sized hole in the top of green and red apples or other fruit and place in a bowl or elegantly shaped box in the middle of your dining room or living room table. The heat from the candles will flood the room with a fruity scent. This is a cheap and easy, but beautiful, centerpiece.

  6. Step 6

Cut wrapping paper into strips and create bunches to stick out of vases or to wrap around curtain rods, columns or posts. Use themed ribbons to accent a table, wrap around lamp posts or accent chandeliers and light fixtures.

  7. Step 7

Research Christmas tree sales at craft stores or discount retailers or at smaller, family-owned nurseries. After you purchase your tree, it is easy to decorate it on the cheap. Make the tree simple but elegant at the same time by choosing lights or ornaments with a single shape or color. It is clutter-free and stylish, especially if you choose to use just red and white lights, star ornaments, little candles or snowflakes. Or you can go with the tradition of stringing popcorn on branches.
