Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 foot deep sea rod
  • 100 lb or better fish line
  • Bait fish
  1. Step 1

Go to a fishing pier in Florida like the Sky Way pier in St. Petersburg. There are giant Grouper fish right off of this pier.

  2. Step 2

Bait a 6/0 fish hook with a large ribbon fish. Giant Grouper love ribbon fish. In this case, the saying "the larger the bait, the larger the Grouper" is true.

  3. Step 3

Drop the bait into the water and let it sink down to the bottom. Giant Grouper are bottom feeders, so bring the bait about a foot off the bottom.

  4. Step 4

Wait until the Giant Grouper takes the bait, and them hang on. The Goliath Grouper will take you for quite a ride if you don't.

Tips & Warnings
  • Goliath Grouper or giant Grouper feed during the day and at night. If you are on a pier trying to catch a Goliath Grouper, night may be better, since there is less boat traffic.
