Restore a File From The Recycle Bin

If you accidentally send a file to the recycle bin, all hope is not lost. The recycle bin is sort of holding bin for most deleted files until you "empty" the recycle bin.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First double click on the recycle bin to open it.

Note, if you don't see the recycle bin on the desktop, go to My Computer and click on the recycle bin option on the left menu. Microsoft Windows Vista was used for this demostration. For Windows XP and older systems, the process is almost the same.

  2. Step 2

After you open the recycle bin, you'll see a list of deleted files. Browse and select the file you want to restore.

  3. Step 3

After selecting the file(s) you want to restore, click on the "Restore this item" button located at the top of the menu.

  4. Step 4

That's it! Go back to the location that the file was originally at before it was deleted. The file should be there.

Tips & Warnings
  • This will work on must computers, unless the recycle bin was disabled.
