Pick a time and a place that suit your style: Over dinner? On an evening walk? In the middle of the night?
Step2
Make the moment special and romantic with sparkling cider (in lieu of Champagne) and a new dress, if that's important to you.
Step3
Try the indirect method, if that's your style: Mention that your period's late or use a prop, like a rattle or a baby book, to get your point across.
Step4
Consider integrating him into the discovery process. Tell him you think maybe, and then have him there with you to look at your test results.
Step5
Try telling him by phone, if you think he'll need a little time by himself to settle into the news.
Tips & Warnings
Don't be disheartened if your big telling event falls flat. Parenthood is a major life change, and even if you've been planning on it for years, the reality can be quite shocking at first. Give it time.

cute ideas! I told my husband over the phone (my then fiance) because I couldn't wait another week when I would be able to tell him in person. It did come as a shock (a happy one, but still a shock) so I think it was good that way because he had time to process it and do a little freaking out by himself and then by the time we were together he was happy and excited.

We live next to a small park and I was thinking of getting a classic child's book and filling in the blank for the name of the owner with Baby (our last name). I'll leave the book at the park on my way home and my husband and I can go on a walk before dinner and "accidentally" find the book. Then I can say, does it have a name in it? And wait for him to figure it out!

When I found out I was pregnant I wan't to surprise my husband. We had been trying for a long time and everyone around us was getting pregnant. I wanted it to be special so I took a Baby dress that I wore when I was a Baby, and His Baby blanket that his mother made for him. I wraped it up. When he got home from work I gave it to him on one knee and asked him if he would be our childs father! He was so happy he cried!!

My husband is a pilot and was out of town working when I called and told him I was pregnant. He flipped, so when I found out it was twins, I figured I better wait until he got home to tell him to avoid any sort of pilot malfunction! I bought 2 onesies, one of them I decorated, "I Love Daddy." I gave it to my husband and he thought I was cheesy, so I gave him the next gift bag that had a onesie in it that said, "Me, Too." He stood there in shock for a minute, walked around in a daze, then came back with tears in his eyes and hugged me. It was great!

I always cook my husband dinner. So, when I found out I was pregnant, I cooked him the usual dinner, but before putting it on the plate, I wrote with a permanent marker on the bottom of the plate - "Soon to be Daddy!" I covered the plate with food, and when he got to the bottom of the plate, he saw it! Make sure he doesn't choke though!
