Make Buttermilk

If you are like most people you do not keep buttermilk on hand in your fridge. If you did it would just go to waste because you wouldn’t use it all. So what do you do when you are cooking or baking and the recipe calls for buttermilk? You could skip it and just use regular milk, but then the flavor wouldn’t be just right. You would hate to go by a whole carton when you only need a small amount for your recipe. Here is an easy solution to make your own buttermilk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • milk
  • white vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 cup measuring cup
  1. Step 1

Making your own buttermilk is so simple. You might not ever buy buttermilk again after you try this. Measure one tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice into a one cup measuring cup.

  2. Step 2

Add enough milk to fill the rest of the one cup measuring cup.

  3. Step 3

Stir the milk and vinegar or lemon juice together.

  4. Step 4

Let the milk and vinegar or lemon juice sit for five minutes.

  5. Step 5

After it sits for five minutes it is ready to be used in your recipe.
