This article will explain in detail how to convert WAV files to MP3 format. MP3's are much smaller in file size and more widely used for audio media on computers, ipods, and ofcourse mp3 players.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

There are several ways to do this, I'm going to go over a few options of programs that you could use. I'm not saying one is better than the other, it's more of which features are you looking for technical options or just as simple as it gets. Let's keep it simple for this article.

  2. Step 2

You should be able to find a Free MP3 Converter on any of my websites listed below for references, just type "Free MP3 Converter" into the search box, and follow through with the website to download the program.

  3. Step 3

Once you've got your Free MP3 Converter installed, you can run the program. You should have an option to import your WAV file, which may be titled something along the lines of "Choose Input File" etc. Once you've chosen your WAV file that you would like converted press Start or something along the lines of "encode to MP3" may be set as the caption.

  4. Step 4

Under the settings menu you may select your output folder. This is where the final MP3 will be saved, your desktop is a good place to save it to so that it's easy to get to and you can move it wherever you want once you've got it on your desktop.

Tips & Warnings
  • For more advanced settings and preferences you may want to try a new WAV to MP3 converter, depending on how much you care about audio quality and file size.
  • Make sure you backup any file that you are editing or converting so that if anything happens you can always have a safe backup.
