How to Make Fast Money without Getting a Second Job

Whether you're short on rent, looking to book a last minute vacation or just want some mad money, there are a variety of ways to make some extra cash on short notice. Getting a second job is time-consuming and a large commitment, but there are simpler things that you can do that will line your pockets in a short amount of time. Look for ways to make more money at your current job, sell some of your unwanted belongings or perform odd jobs to earn money without seeking a second job.

  • Ask your boss for a raise. Approach your supervisor and present her with the benefits that you offer the firm. Offer tangible figures that show how you have helped the firm. For instance, show how many dollars worth of sales you have brought in. Present the case that you are a valuable asset and explain that you feel you are deserving of a raise. Don't cite financial need as a reason for your raise, request it based on merit.

  • Request additional hours at your current job. If you don't mind doing more work, but just don't want to find another job, ask your current employer for more hours. Offer to work additional shifts or to come in on your days off to work on projects. You may also be able to fill in for shifts when other people want time off.

  • Sell your unwanted items. Clear out your house of any old belongings that are taking up space in your attic or basement. Organize a yard sale. Price all of the items, advertise your sale in the local classifieds and put your belonging up for sale. This can help earn some money while clearing the clutter from your life.

  • Work odd jobs to make some extra money. Rather than getting a second job try picking up some extra money working odd jobs for friends, family or neighbors. Offer to perform basic household tasks like cleaning or lawn care. If you have a particular skill like sewing or carpentry, offer to perform these tasks. Create a flyer advertising your services and place it on local bulletin boards.
