How to Add New Skein of Crochet Yarn

When crocheting a project it is always best to add a new skein of yarn at the beginning of a row. Usually you will have a good idea of when that last row will be, but sometimes we either misjudge, or simply haven't been paying attention. If you run out of yarn in the middle of a row, carefully backtrack, bringing yourself to the start of the row, where you can add the new skein of yarn.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the new strand of yarn around the hook, leaving a 6 inch tail.

    • 2

Continue crocheting by drawing up a loop.

    • 3

Tie a loose knot on the tail to secure it in place.

    • 4

Untie the knot when the project is complete.

    • 5

Thread the tail through a yarn needle and weave tail inconspicuously through the project to conceal and secure the tail. When weaving, do not pull the yarn tight.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid knots in finished projects.
