Step 1
Check out the weather report for the day of the funeral. Even during the winter there can be unseasonably warm days. You also will need to pay attention to whether they are calling for rain during the time of the winter funeral. If the weatherman is calling for rain the day of the funeral you will want to make sure that your outfit is as waterproof as possible. You may need to opt for a waterproof winter jacket instead of a dress jacket.
-
Step 2
The best type of outfit for a woman to wear to a winter funeral is a pants outfit. The basic black dress is usually the go to outfit for a funeral, but not during the winter. Freezing in a dress at the cemetery is not going to help you to feel any better. The best way to get through a winter funeral is to feel as comfortable as possible. A pair of black dress slacks is the best way to go to feel comfortable and to stay warm.

Step 3
For your top, you will want to dress in layers. The funeral home and the service may be warm to hot depending on the thermostat. You will need to be able to bundle up for the trip to the gravesite for the winter funeral. One option that may be the best of all worlds is to wear a thin sweater. The thin sweater will be cool enough for the inside parts of the funeral, while helping to keep you warm when you are outside.
-
Step 4
You will want to wear comfortable shoes to a winter funeral. Most women want to wear high heels to a funeral. They feel this makes them look more dressed up. These are not the shoes to wear for the winter. You will slip on any ice that may be around. The best shoes to wear for a winter funeral are low boots. Boots will give you the traction that you need to walk. The boots will also help to keep your feet warm.

on 11/3/2009 Great article, great info. IdealHeels are also a must for outdoor funerals. They prevent your heels from sinking in grass and keep them clear of mud, dirt and grass stains as well. www.IdealHeel.com

on 6/12/2009 For a winter funeral, and I know it's a bit bizarre, but...may a lady wear a shoulder-length pair of lambskin opera gloves? They would be worn with a full-length overcoat and nobody would take notice. And, most importantly, her arms would be warm during those freezing temperatures at graveside.
