If a sheer liquid foundation is your solution for covering freckles, you might be using the wrong product for the job. In fact, three tinted coverup products are all you really need to create a flawless, freckle-free face in 15 minutes or less. When it comes to covering freckles or skin blemishes, less is always more. To avoid a caked-on makeup look, start with a dime-sized amount of liquid makeup to cover, and then blend the product outward with your fingertips or makeup sponge.

Things You'll Need

  • Facial soap
  • Towel
  • Moisturizer
  • Green-tinted primer
  • Medium-coverage liquid foundation
  • Makeup sponge
  • Foundation brush
  • Concealer
  • Translucent powder
  • Blush brush

Begin with clean and moisturized skin. Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle facial soap. Pat skin dry with a towel and apply a moisturizer formulated for your skin type. Allow the moisturizer to seep into your skin fully -- about five to 10 minutes.

Smooth on a green-tinted primer to create an even canvas for your facial makeup. A few dots of tinted primer will neutralize the red and brown tones in your freckles and absorb excess oil on the skin. Using your fingertips, spread a pea-sized amount of primer across the freckled areas.

Dot your cheeks, forehead, chin and nose with a highly pigmented, medium-coverage liquid foundation. Using a makeup sponge or foundation brush, blend the makeup for the center of the face outward. Let the makeup sink in for 60 seconds. If you have oily skin, press a facial tissue on your skin to remove any shine.

Use a makeup brush to cover your freckles with creamy concealer. For maximum coverage, opt for a concealer that is one shade darker than your skin tone, but one shade lighter than your freckles. Melt a pea-sized amount of product into your skin by patting gently with your fingertips. Apply small and even layers of concealer with a concealer brush until you’ve covered your freckles completely.

Blend your foundation and concealer with a damp makeup sponge. Dust on a thin layer of translucent powder with a fluffy blush brush to set your makeup for all-day wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • To keep your freckles from darkening over time, apply a minimum SPF 15 sunscreen under your makeup.
  • To conceal freckles, always put on your foundation and concealer in three or four thin layers instead of using one thick layer.
  • Don’t use concealer with white or pink tones. These light-colored makeup products will highlight your freckles and may create a muted gray color after a couple hours of wear.
