The first type of person you should consider recruiting or hiring is one who is smarter than you are. You must be self confident in order to do this. You are who you surround yourself with in the business world. If they succeed, you succeed and vice versa. Be loyal to them and expect the same professional courtesy in return.

Hire passionate people who have more than just smarts. Look for outstanding character and a good personality. Expect common sense as much as business sense. There is a huge difference in the two. Hire someone who has both.

Observe their behavior. Do they initiate conversation, are they likeable, self sufficient, motivated? You want people who are. Are they able to "feed themselves or will they have to be "spoon fed," wasting your time and their's too?

Once you recruit someone treat them as you would want to be treated. If not, you will lose them to someone who will. Then you will have wasted a tremendous amount of energy and effort in the hiring and training process and will have to spend double to start all over again. Don't let the "honeymoon" phase with your new recruit end or so may their employment.
