EQ Vocals in Pro Tools
EQ Vocals in Pro Tools

Pro Tools is the Audio recording DAW of choice for amateurs and professionals alike. One of the most difficult elements of the mix is the vocal track. Knowing the correct EQ settings is paramount for vocals that are hot and carry the right frequency.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First of course, you need Pro Tools or a similar digital audio workstation program. You can find trial versions of good audio programs on the web and some are shareware and free too, however this particular article is for Pro Tools users.

  2. Step 2

In Pro tools TDM, LE and M Powered, for each track you have Digirack - a plugin that is native to the Pro Tools environment. You want to select the 4 band EQ for the vocal track. The settings are appropriate for any vocal track. The settings are transparent toe to vocal and just add the right amount of air and transparency to the vocal.

  3. Step 3

Looking at the diagram you can easily see the EQ settings for the track. These settings will work for any mic set up as well. You want to save the settings as Vocal Track or Master or whatever. This will make your vocal track nice and tight and stand out in the mix as vocals have a tendency to be "buried" due to improper EQ. This EQ setting is what most Pro studios use.
