Luxury camping in France is popular among European holiday makers, and it is becoming increasingly popular to rent a luxury yurt, especially in southwest France. Yurts were originally designed by Mongolians to be weather resistant and to remain warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Yurts have been embraced by the ecotourism industry as a green holiday accommodation. Yurt vacation rentals in France are often found on small, family-run sites that operate on eco-friendly principles. They typically have cooking facilities and it is standard for bedding to be included. Prices vary greatly depending on the size of the yurt, surrounding facilities and the season. Prices can run from between 80 and 200 Euros a night and sometime include breakfast. Most yurt holiday sites are open only from May – September. Their facilties are run in an eco-friendly manner and all food is bought locally.

    Book a holiday with Limousin Farm Holidays, which provides tipis and yurts on a family-run farm in southwest France. The tipis and yurts sleep six and come equipped with wood-burning stoves. Visitors also have use of the farmhouse which has a regular kitchen, dining room/common room and laundry room.

    For even cosier yurt vacation rentals in France, visit La Pierre Vert, which is run by an English family and is located 5 minutes from the medieval town of Uzès, near Avignon in southern France. They rent a yurt from May – September, and tents are available upon request. They require a minimum one week stay during high season. They have plans to bring yoga retreats to their farm in 2009.
