Things You'll Need:
- A nerdy curiosity like mine
-
Step 1
eHow Article SearchConstruct a Google search using the image at the right as a model (click on the image to enlarge it).
-
Step 2
Note the 'number range' search. This is the key to the search strategy (Google is the only search engine that allows this, as far as I know). With the number range feature, Google will find all instances of a phrase that falls within the specified range. For instance, a search on "25..50 ratings" will find all websites that contain the phrases '25 ratings', '26 ratings', and so on, up to '50 ratings'.
-
Step 3
Popular articles for an authorFind the most popular articles for a particular writer. Use the search shown here as your template. Of course, you'll have to substitute the name of the writer you're interested in.
-
Step 4
Omit results. You can use a minus sign to limit results. For instance, adding the term -editor will eliminate all articles written by eHow editors, while including -2006 will eliminate articles written in 2006. (But...it also eliminates a few later articles that happen to include the term 2006 in the text).
-
Step 5
Play around. Change the number range. Add more search terms to include or omit different results. There's some interesting stuff to be found.
