Things You'll Need:
- The desire to get a per-hour writing job
-
Step 1
First of all, keep in mind that this is likely going to take longer than a traditional job search. There are a lot of scams out there, and so you have to keep that in mind when you're randomly searching. Two places that I would recommend are a site called odesk.com and then finding local jobs and gigs in your area on craigslist.org. Just know however that some scams have made their way to craigslist, so you have to deeply check things out before handing over all your personal information.
-
Step 2
The way odesk.com works is you create a portfolio of your work (great place to link your eHow.com articles list as an example), take some writing tests to prove you know enough about grammar and sentence structure to write professionally, and then search available jobs. You can do hourly or fixed price, but the site only guarantees your payment on hourly jobs. It took me a few weeks of applying for different positions, but I eventually started getting some interviews and was hired to do some articles. The great thing about this is you can do a lot of one article/week jobs to eventually equal out to a nice income, especially when you combine it with your work on residual income writing websites.
-
Step 3
With craigslist, I focus on the writing sections of both "jobs" and "gigs." Some jobs you can tell were written by a local person or business needing help. I tend to avoid the ones that are really vague or seem to just be after you to sign up for a job search website (which may just be wanting your personal information to sell.)
