Make a Purse From Favorite Playing Cards

If you enjoy making easy crafts with children, consider designing a purse from a favorite deck of playing cards. Card purses are the latest craze in crafts, if your girls always want to be the first to carry the newest design in purses. Regular playing cards, flash cards, Uno, Skip-Bo, or even collector cards such as Yu-Gi-Oh will work. Read how to make a purse from playing cards.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Partial Deck of cards
  • Clear Duct-tape (ROLL)
  • Adhesive velcro
  • (Two-1/2-inch circles)
  1. Step 1
Choose your favorite partial deck of playing cards

Choose your favorite partial deck of playing cards

Choose your favorite partial deck of playing cards before beginning your craft. The small purse in the photo used 20 individual cards, so if you have decks missing cards now you can use them.

  2. Step 2
    Lay the cards side-by-side

    Lay the cards side-by-side

Lay the cards for the side of the purse down side-by-side. The one in the photo has 3-cards on each side, 2-cards on the bottom, 1-card on each side, 3-cards for the lid, and 7-cards for the handles. If you decide to make a larger size purse, you will need to adjust your card quantities accordingly.

  3. Step 3
    Tape the cards together

    Tape the cards together

Use clear duct-tape to tape the cards together. Use long strips of tape so the cards are completely covered, this will help protect the purse from moisture. Tape one extra card to each side that you can fold in to form the sides of the purse.

  4. Step 4
    Tape all 3-sections together

    Tape all 3-sections together

Tape the cards for the bottom together, if making the one in the picture it is 2-cards. Lay this piece flat between the two flat sides that are already taped together, and tape all 3-sections together.

  5. Step 5
    Tape the ends

    Tape the ends

Fold the sides up; turn the ends in, cut 2-pieces of tape the same length as your cards. Tape the ends on the inside of the purse to the other sides forming a rectangle.

  6. Step 6
Fold the taped line of cards in half the long way.

Fold the taped line of cards in half the long way.

Choose the cards for the handle, lay them end-to-end in a straight line. Take a long strip of duct-tape and tape your line of cards from one end to the other. Fold the taped line of cards in half, and tape the opening closed with another long strip of tape to form the handle.

  7. Step 7
    Tape the handle inside

    Tape the handle inside

Tape the handle inside the purse. Place the ends of the handle all the way in the purse so they touch the bottom. Use a piece of tape the same size as the ends of your purse to completely cover the inside ends over the handle. This should help secure the handle in place.

  8. Step 8
    Make the lid

    Make the lid

Make the lid by taping 3-cards side-by-side. Place a strip of tape over one edge so that half the tape is hanging off the end. Use that half to tape the lid onto the purse. Use another piece to tape across the inside. Bend the cards across the center. Stick your two pieces of velcro on the outside of the purse and inside of the lid so you can close your purse.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is an easy craft and takes about 20-minutes. Even your toddler can help.
  • Adults should supervise tape cutting.
