Instructions

    • 1

Get an inexpensive round tablecloth. You can use one especially designed for Christmas, or use a plain one that you can decorate yourself.

    • 2

Find the center of the tablecloth and cut a hole large enough to go around the base of the Christmas tree.

    • 3

Cut the tablecloth from the center hole that you just cut to the outer edge in a straight line. It does not have to be perfectly straight.

    • 4

Decorate the tablecloth using paint and stamps with Christmas designs, if desired. If you have small children, you can also have them dip their hands in red and green paint and "stamp" their handprints on the fabric. Write the year under each hand print along with the name of the child. Have them do this each year and watch as their hand size grows.

    • 5

Allow the tree skirt to dry completely in a place where it will not be disturbed before placing under the Christmas tree.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use the idea of stamping your child's handprint on the tree skirt, you may even want to continue the Christmas tradition with your grandchildren. Place the tablecloth around the base of the tree, placing the cut part toward the back of the tree. Overlap the cut edges so they are not noticeable.

  • If using paint to decorate your tree skirt, make sure that it will not wash off or fade away if the tree skirt needs to be washed.
