How to Make a Craft Work Area in a Small Space

Most of us lack the space to devote a whole room to our craft activities. If we take a corner in a room like a guest room or the dining room, then the craft area must be compact and easily closed away after crafting sessions. Here's how to set up that creative work area.

Things You'll Need

  • a storage unit that includes a work table
  • electrical plugs
  • good lighting
  • secretarial chair or comfortable task chair

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away some little used piece of furniture to make way for the craft storage and work space. Get a combination unit like the Murphy Bed Store sells. The unit needs to have storage space for tools and supplies, file drawers and a fold-out work table.

    • 2

Install lighting that's good enough for detailed craft work. This can be a floor lamp or other lighting arrangement.

    • 3

Collect the craft supplies from around the house and store them in the new unit. Labels the storage drawers for easy retrieval.

    • 4

Put the instruction booklets and patterns in the file drawers in hanging folders.

    • 5

Keep a folding table (stored in the garage or a closet) and bring it out for use with major craft projects.

Your ideas and photos gives me ideas that I could use instead of our dining room table. I need more room to make my minature boxes for Christmas.
