While the nightly news has many people troubled, it is still possible to succeed financially even in an overall down economy. In this article, I'll share ideas and tips that I've found helpful.

Things You'll Need:

  • The desire to win financially in a down economy
  1. Step 1

First of all, your attitude and thought process about money often have a greater influence on your success than outside circumstances. Sometimes people hear so much bad news about the economy it impacts them on a personal level, decreasing their motivation and desire to look for opportunity. To succeed in a down economy, you have to approach things differently than most people--allowing you to find opportunities other people don't think exist. This often takes more work,

  2. Step 2

In business situations, focus on changing needs and how your role and service may have to adapt and change. In normal market conditions a niche will greatly help you as far as marketing, but from an income standpoint you may have to branch out to create additional income sources.

  3. Step 3

Regardless to the economic environment, you need to have a financial plan to get and stay stable--this gives you a base where you can then develop wealth. I'll link you to some resources that can help you with this area.

  4. Step 4

Even if you have a job that appears stable, develop a couple of hobby income sources to supplement your job income if for no other reason to save and invest the extra. For many people, a hobby that they like can be turned into a part-time or even full-time business with a few extra steps.

  5. Step 5

Giving is an important aspect of finances that's important to remember as well, especially in difficult economic times. It's been my personal experience that voluntary (as opposed to pressured) giving impacts both the giver and receiver in a wonderful way. Out of fear, some people cut back on their giving when things get tough--you have to learn to overcome that because that fear tends to creep over into other aspects of your life.
