Hair weaves, whether they be synthetic or human hair, must be styled with care. When curling a weave, different approaches are necessary to achieve the desired result. While hot curling irons are fine for weaves made out of human hair, they are not appropriate for synthetic weaves. Knowing the best means of styling a weave will keep the hair looking healthy and natural for as long as possible.

    Curling a Human-Hair Weave

  1. Step 1

Heat a curling iron to the lowest heat setting possible that will curl the weave. Though the heat cannot melt the hair, it can damage it to the point that it cannot be repaired.

  2. Step 2

Clip up the top layer of the weave with hair clips.

  3. Step 3

Curl the lower layer of the weave with the curling iron. Be gentle with the weave, making sure not to tug on it or hold the heat against it for too long.

  4. Step 4

Unclip the top layer of the weave and curl it with the iron. Style as usual.

  5. Curling a synthetic weave

  6. Step 1

Fill a large bowl with hot water and dip the ends of the weave in the water to get them damp. Wring the weave out gently so that it isn't dripping.

  7. Step 2

Clip up the top layer of the weave with hair clips.

  8. Step 3

Roll the bottom layer of the weave in plastic or sponge curlers. Rolling the curlers underneath the hair will produce body, while rolling the curlers over the top of the hair will produce springy curls.

  9. Step 4

Unclip the top layer of the weave and roll it in curlers, going in the same direction as the lower layer.

  10. Step 5

Keep the curlers on overnight. In the morning, unclip and pull out the curlers, styling the hair with a comb and hair product until the desired results are achieved.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the curlers won't stay in place overnight, try sleeping with a thin shower cap on over the curlers.
  • Never repeatedly apply heat to a human-hair weave. The quality of the weave correlates to how well it responds to styling tools; if the iron isn't working, it's best to try rollers so that the weave isn't damaged.
