Things You'll Need:
- The desire to help someone learn about money
-
Step 1
First of all, the person you want to help has to want help. You can't force ideas and concepts on someone who doesn't want to learn them or change their behavior. This can be hard and painful sometimes, especially when you really care about somebody, but be patient until the person is receptive to your help.
-
Step 2
Focus on showing the person "how to fish" as opposed to just giving them "fish." Simply giving someone money when they have a thought process where money is like water through a sieve is not going to help them. Getting them around resources so they can help themselves will help long-term. It is a very fun thing to watch someone make connections to ideas that they just didn't have available to them.
-
Step 3
Don't expect immediate perfection out of someone--remember that none of us are. Be patient since learning about money is usually a process that happens over time, not overnight.
-
Step 4
If you need extra resources, I'm going to link below several sites that I think will help you. If you're at a distance from someone, you can send these to people and talk with them over the phone.
