How to Replace the Throttle in a Chevy Cobalt
The Chevy Cobalt is a great example of American automaker's ability to produce an economical, four-cylinder, front-wheel drive compact car. Introduced in 2005, the Cobalt replaced the Chevy Cavalier with stepped up quality and warranty coverage. The 2.0L engine has sufficient pep and good fuel economy. This information guides you through the installation of the throttle body on the 2005 engine specifically. Things You'll Need
- Mechanic's toolset, including a full socket set, wrenches, screwdrivers
- Torque wrench
- Replacement gasket
- Clean shop cloths
- Plastic scraper

Take the negative battery cable from the terminal, then remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Disconnect the evaporative emission purge line.

Disengage the throttle body control harness connector. Loosen and remove the attaching bolts on the throttle body.

Lift the throttle body and the gasket from the supercharger. Inspect the gasket surface carefully for any damage and replace as necessary. Place a clean shop cloth other the opening to the manifold to prevent dirt from falling into the engine.

Clean the gasket mating surfaces to remove any dirt, carbon deposits or gasket material. Set the gasket in position on the supercharger. Place the new throttle body on the supercharger, aligning it carefully over the gasket.

Place the throttle body attaching bolts in position and tighten them initially by hand. Torque the bolts to 89 inch pounds of torque. Reconnect the throttle body control harness connector.

Install the EVAP purge line. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for proper performance.
