Finished Christmas Card Display

Most of us run out of room on shelves and mantle to display all the Christmas card we receive.
It’s easy to make a display you can hang on a wall or door using items you probably already have around the house.

This is fun project and easy enough to get the kids involved, so gather the family around and lets get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • plastic pant hanger
  • acrylic paint (optional)
  • sponge paint brush (optional)
  • clothes pins
  • 1" ribbon
  • glue (I used hot glue, but any quick drying glue will work)
  • A bit of Christmas Garland
  • small ornaments
  • Piece of plastic (old shower curtain or garbage bag)
  1. Step 1
    painted hanger

Cover your work space with the plastic.
If you’re going to paint your coat hanger, choose a bright color acrylic paint and sponge it on the coat hanger. Allow to dry completely before continuing. I painted mine a bright red, but after I finished the project I discovered that not much of the hanger showed, so it’s not really necessary to paint it.

  2. Step 2
    tie ribbon around hanger

The length of ribbon you’ll be working with will depend on the wall or door space you plan to hang the display on. You’ll need three pieces of ribbon. Cut one length of ribbon about 3" longer than the other two so you’ll have enough ribbon to tie around the hook of the hanger. Tie in an overhand knot, straighten out the long end so that it hangs straight down and glue the knot.

  3. Step 3

Clip the other two pieces of ribbon into the clips on the hanger. These clips have grips in them but may not be strong enough to hold any weight, so it’s best to glue the ribbon into the clips.

Decorate your clothes pins with bits of ribbon, garland, tiny ornaments or just leave them plain. You can use plastic clothes pins, which come in a variety of colors, or use wooden clothes pins and either paint them or decorate them. Glue the clothes pins onto the ribbon about 6 to 8 inches apart. Place the clothes pins on the outside ribbons even with each other to keep the display balanced and stagger the center ones.

  4. Step 4

Now add a snippet of Christmas garland and a few ornaments to the top of the hanger. You can wire these on with florist wire, or tie them on with pretty ribbon, or simply twist pieces of the garland around the hanger.

There you have it. Your Christmas card display is ready to hang. You can hang it from a nail on the wall or attach a removable hook to a wall or door, or hang a clear plastic wreath hanger over your door and hang it from that.

If you don’t have all the items I’ve used, get creative. Use your imagination. This is just a starting place. Have Fun!
