How to Become a Hipster
The word "hipster" first appeared on Harry Gibson's album "Boogie Woogie in Blue." It meant someone who liked hot jazz, though hipsters constantly reinvent themselves, since as soon as something becomes mainstream, it isn't hip anymore. Here's step-by-step information on how to act like a hipster today.

1
Throw out your old wardrobe (unless it's really old). The most identifiable part of being a hipster is fashion. You have to do all your shopping at vintage clothes stores or at goodwill. Tight jeans are recommended. The important thing to remember is to not care what other people think of your style.

2
Move out of the suburbs. You will never find a group of hipsters drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) at the end of a cul-de-sac in a subdivision. The center of the hipster universe seems to be located in New York City, on the east side of Manhattan or in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, although hipsters can be found in most big cities.

3
Quit your lame 9-to-5 job. You cannot work at an office building with a view of a man-made pond and be a hipster. The ultimate goal of a hipster is not to have a real job. Learn to make art or play an instrument.
-
4
Start collecting vinyl. Music is very important to a hipster, and it is equally important that you have the ability to listen to it in vinyl form.
-
5
Drink Pabst Blue Ribbon. This is the preferred choice of beers among hipsters. It's cheap, which is convenient: once you become a hipster, you won't have much money.
-
6
Learn the lingo. Don't call it beer--it's "bronson." The word "cool" isn't used much anymore. The word for describing something as cool is "deck." "Midtown" is used in reference to someone who is uncultured or unhip.
