Keep your toilet clean with a frugal and green solution.

You can clean your toilet bowl without unhealthy and expensive commercial products. With natural -- and common -- products that you may already have in your kitchen, you can create a homemade toilet cleaner that will be safe for your family and the environment and save you money, too. Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Toilet brush
  • Borax

Instructions

    • 1

      Pour 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl. It will create a foaming action. Let it sit for 15 minutes.

    • 2

      Scrub all of the inside surfaces of the toilet with a brush. Be sure to get under the rim and as far down the drain as you can go.

    • 3

      Flush the toilet to rinse it.

Tips & Warnings

  • As an alternative, you can sprinkle 1 cup of borax around the toilet bowl, then spray with 1/2 cup white vinegar. Leave the solution on for a few hours or overnight then scrub with a toilet brush.
