Menstrual cramps are mild contractions of the uterus that cause a heavy or an aching feeling in the lower belly. If you're looking for a natural technique to treat menstrual cramps, consider magnetic therapy. Basically, magnets create magnetic fields. In theory, magnetic fields can block the pain signals from reaching the brain, creating relief from menstrual cramps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure you use static magnets to treat your menstrual cramps. Static magnets are similar to the ones used on fridges. Static magnets create fields that are unchanging, meaning that they won't suddenly increase or decrease in efficacy.

  2. Step 2

Read the directions enclosed with your magnets. Typically, to treat menstrual cramps, you attach the magnets to your underwear, wear underwear with magnets sewn in, or hold them in place with a belt. If you wear tight clothes, it may be possible to see the magnets, depending on the product you're using.

  3. Step 3

Plan on using the magnets for three to six sessions before you notice relief. Relief from menstrual cramps probably won't be instantaneous. Some researchers believe you can become "used" to magnets, decreasing their effectiveness. In order for them to be the most effective, take them off as directed.

  4. Step 4

Wait one hour after eating before using your magnets. Magnets may interfere with digestion and the normal muscle contractions of your digestion system.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your menstrual cramping is severe, check in with your doctor. This could be a sign of a more serious medical condition.
  • Never use magnets if you have a pacemaker.
  • The FDA (Federal Food and Drug Administration) does not approve the use of magnets to treat menstrual cramps.

on 5/26/2009 This looks interesting but what if you love to be on the computer? Won't the magnets wipe out your data?
