How to Make a Candy Land Christmas Tree Centerpiece

A great way to make good use of space during the holidays is to create centerpieces that double as a part of the meal. Generally, this will be dessert so you can enjoy the centerpiece up to the point that you are about to leave the table. A Candy Land Christmas tree makes an ideal decoration for a Christmas buffet. It gives guests a variety of dessert options to choose from, and you do not have to bake or cook.

Things You'll Need

• Small terracotta flower pot
• Iridescent glass marbles or aquarium glass
• Wooden skewers
• Chocolate kisses
• Brightly wrapped chocolate balls
• Gumdrops
• Red velvet ribbon
• Scissors
• Hair dryer
• Small fake Christmas tree

Instructions

1. Position the tree in the flowerpot; the lowest branches of the tree should brush the top of the pot. Put some glass or marbles in before you sit the tree in the pot if necessary. Pour the rest of the marbles or glass over the base to hold it firmly in place. The marbles should reach just below the edge of the pot.

2. Cut the skewers to different lengths, but don't make any so short that they won't reach the marbles or glass in the flower pot through the branches of the artificial tree.

3. Push the pointed part of the skewer into the candies. It should not protrude from the other side. Do not unwrap the candies if they are individually wrapped, but poke through the wrappers with the skewer. You may have to heat the chocolate slightly with a hair dryer to get the skewer in.

4. Push the skewers into the marbles holding up the tree.

5. Tie the red velvet ribbon in a bow on the top of the tree. Let the tails hang down on either side of the tree.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are not going to eat things off the tree right away, use only wrapped candies.

• Keep this tree out of reach of pets and small children who might not remove the skewer before chomping on the candy.
